Can tags and categories be the same?
The short answer is No. Categories and tags both have different purposes. You have to use categories, but you don't have to use tags if you don't want to. However, we recommend using both, appropriately, to help readers navigate your site.
How do I add categories and tags to a WordPress page?
On any existing page, click on the Settings button and select the Document tab. You will now see a Categories and Tag option appear in the settings. Simply click on one of them and you will be presented with the same options as a post. Choose a category for your page.
Can you merge categories in WordPress?

To merge categories, simply check the box next to the categories you want to merge. Next, select 'Merge' from the 'Bulk actions' drop down and type the name of the category you want to merge. Then, click the 'Apply' button.
Can a blog post have multiple categories?
Establish 3-5 main categories. Remember, you can drill down into subcategories if necessary. Limit blogs to one category per post. Adding multiple categories creates duplicate content of the category pages, and the overall effect is underdeveloped and thin.
