What is the fold in design?

The “fold” of a website is considered to be at the bottom of the screen. Anything above the fold is immediately visible to the reader as soon as the page loads and anything below the fold requires scrolling. The exact location of the fold will depend on the device that the visitor is using to load the page.

Is it OK to design below the fold?

In the advertising world, an ad that is considered a 'viewable impression' if at least 50% of its pixels appear on a user's screen for at least one second. Because of its decreased visibility, ads that are placed below the fold typically generate less ad revenue than ads that appear at the top of the page.

What does fold mean in social media?
