Why is text size important on a website?
Font size can direct the attention of the user
Using larger fonts as headings and titles can really grab the attention of the user, and help them to slow down while scrolling through your website. The best practice is to use this above the fold, to really draw users into your website.
Is 12px font too small?
For traditional computer monitors, a size of 12pt (=16px) for body is generally recommended for body text (depending on audience). Ensure that default fonts are no smaller than 9 pt (=12px). Smaller sizes may be illegible on some platforms. The WCAG Guidelines recommend ensuring that text can be zoomed to 200%.
What should be avoided to properly support zooming?
Avoid Clipped, Truncated, Obscured, and Overlapping Text
While a page technically fulfills the WCAG criteria if it allows either text resizing or zooming, it is best practice for developers to accommodate both if possible.
