By right clicking the Earth/Satellite button you can toggle the extra contrast independently. The extra contrast is implemented using a CSS -webkit-filter and is determined experimentally.
What colors make high contrast?
White and black have the highest color contrast, having the lightest & darkest values respectively. White on black, or the reverse, are great standard options for when choosing colors for signs. Black and yellow together are another popular high contrast pairing.
Is higher color contrast better?
A monitor's contrast ratio indicates the depth of blacks – a higher contrast ratio means deeper blacks – and, by extension, better picture quality. It's a very important part of picture quality, so if you want something that looks good (particularly in a dark room), be sure to get a monitor that has good contrast.
