What are the products of nature?
The broadest definition of natural product is anything that is produced by life, and includes the likes of biotic materials (e.g. wood, silk), bio-based materials (e.g. bioplastics, cornstarch), bodily fluids (e.g. milk, plant exudates), and other natural materials (e.g. soil, coal).
What is natural products discovery?
The LSI's Natural Products Discovery Core has developed a 45,000-sample (and growing) library of natural product extracts derived from a unique collection of diverse marine and terrestrial actinomycetes, fungi and cyanobacteria.
How are natural products classified?
Natural products can be divided into two major classes, primary metabolites, which are required for an organism to survive, and secondary metabolites, which are not required for an organism to survive, but usually lend the organism some form of growth or survival advantage within its environment.
What is natural product library?
A unique collection of 2,228 natural products for high-throughput screening and high-content screening. Includes quinones, flavonoids, terpenoids, alkaloids, saponins, medicine food homology compounds, human endogenous metabolite compounds and natural organic compounds.
