How do I activate filter function?
The FILTER function allows you to filter a range of data based on criteria you define. In the following example we used the formula =FILTER(A5:D20,C5:C20=H2,"") to return all records for Apple, as selected in cell H2, and if there are no apples, return an empty string ("").
Why is the filter function in Excel not working?
Another reason why your Excel filter may not be working may be due to merged cells. Unmerge any merged cells or so that each row and column has it's own individual content. If your column headings are merged, when you filter you may not be able to select items from one of the merged columns.
