Why use MiB instead of MB?

The mebibyte was designed to replace the megabyte as it conflicted with the definition of the prefix mega in the International System of Units (SI).

They are close in size, however. A mebibyte is equal to 220 or 1,048,576 bytes. A megabyte is equal to 106 1,000,000 bytes. One mebibyte equals 1.048576 megabytes.
