What did Einstein say about time being relative?
Time seems to follow a universal, ticktock rhythm. But it doesn't. In the Special Theory of Relativity, Einstein determined that time is relative—in other words, the rate at which time passes depends on your frame of reference.
What is absolute time and relative time?
There are two types of timestamps that most sites use. Relative timestamps display the number of minutes, hours, days, weeks or years ago a post was published. Absolute timestamps display the exact date and time a post was published.
How does relativity affect time?
This form of time dilation is also real, and it's because in Einstein's theory of general relativity, gravity can bend spacetime, and therefore time itself. The closer the clock is to the source of gravitation, the slower time passes; the farther away the clock is from gravity, the faster time will pass.
Is time just an illusion?
According to theoretical physicist Carlo Rovelli, time is an illusion: our naive perception of its flow doesn't correspond to physical reality. Indeed, as Rovelli argues in The Order of Time, much more is illusory, including Isaac Newton's picture of a universally ticking clock.
