Should download be a link or button?
A hyperlink is correct and expected behaviour. As your link text contains the word "download" there will be no confusion, you do not need to do anything else. However there are additional pieces of information for downloads that you should include if you are able such as document type and file size.
What does a download icon look like?
Icon with a blue dot: The blue dot indicates a new app download. It will appear when a new app or app update is finished downloading and has not been opened yet by the user.
How do I find my real download button?
Hover the mouse cursor over a link or button and you will see a small bar appear at the bottom of the window. This bar is part of your browser's UI and it reveals the link that you're about to click. Look at the URL and the domain that it links to will reveal it.
