Always Offer a Default Selection
One of the 10 heuristics of UI design says that users should be able to undo (and redo) their actions. This means enabling people to set a UI control back to its original state. In case of radio buttons this means that radio buttons should always have exactly one option pre-selected.
Can all radio buttons be deselected?
The reason why it's impossible to deselect HTML “radio” inputs. Radio buttons are not supposed to be left blank. They can be left blank only if you do not want to use default values. This allows you to do things like force the user to fill in the form and not assume anything by default if it is required.
When there are many options and many options are needed to be selected a radio button is used?
Use radio buttons to let users select from two or more mutually exclusive options. Use radio buttons when users need to see all options before they make a selection. Radio buttons emphasize all options equally, which means that some options might draw more attention than is necessary or desired.
Should radio buttons be horizontal or vertical?
Vertical positioning of radio buttons is safer. Radio buttons are tiny in nature, and, thus, according to Fitts' law, they can be hard to click or tap. To enlarge the target area, let users select an option by clicking or tapping not just that button, but also the label or associated words.
