How do I choose a text color?
Go to Format > Font > Font. + D to open the Font dialog box. Select the arrow next to Font color, and then choose a color. Select Default and then select Yes to apply the change to all new documents based on the template.
How do you choose contrast color?
Begin with one color, and look across the color wheel for its direct complement — instead of choosing that color, pick two analogous colors on either side of it. So, for example, if your first color is yellow-green (AKA: chartreuse), look across to red-violet, but choose violet and red as your second and third colors.
What color text looks good on blue background?
For instance with light blue a higher contrast lettering will be needed such as black and for dark blue white lettering will work best.

Their general findings were: 1) Black and white were consistently rated as the most readable; 2) Color combinations that included black were rated more readable than those that did not; and 3) Darker text on lighter backgrounds were rated higher than lighter text on darker backgrounds.
