What is a UI notification?

A notification is a message that Android displays outside your app's UI to provide the user with reminders, communication from other people, or other timely information from your app. Users can tap the notification to open your app or take an action directly from the notification.

How do I get to the notification center?

To view Notification Center on the Lock screen, swipe upward from the middle of the screen until it appears. (You can enable or disable Notification Center on the Lock screen in Settings > Touch ID & Passcode or Face ID & Passcode.)

What is the purpose of a notification center?

Notification Center shows your notifications history, allowing you to scroll back and see what you've missed. There are two ways to see your alerts from the Notification Center: From the Lock Screen, swipe up from the middle of the screen.
