How do you get an app to show number of notifications?
If you want to change badge with number, you can be changed in NOTIFICATION SETTING on the notification panel or Settings > Notifications > App icon badges > Select Show with number.

Turn on App icon badges from Settings.
Navigate back to the main Settings screen, tap Notifications, and then tap Advanced settings. Tap the switch next to App icon badges to turn them on.
Why does my app icon have a notification number?
The Red Numbers that appear on App icons are known as Badge App Icons and the purpose of Red Number Badges on App Icons is to bring to attention the number of unread or unopened notifications.
