What is reassurance in Counselling?
Reassurance commonly consists of explaining symptoms, informing the patient of oncoming procedures, and/or telling the patient that there is nothing to worry about. The latest model on medical reassurance and patient response is developed from persuasion theories (Coia & Morley, 1998).
Is Reassurance a skill?
I think that reassurance is a clinical skill that is as vital as any other. It begins with listening to patients and depends on empathy, which can be taught and learned.
