What is Sentinel-1A and 1B?

Sentinel-1A and 1B are a twin pair of satellites that carry a C-band synthetic aperture radar and are operated by the European Space Agency (ESA). Sentinel-1A was launched on the 3rd April 2014 and Sentinel-1B on the 25th April 2016 at the Guiana Space Centre in Kourou, French Guiana upon a Soyuz rocket.

What is Sentinel-1 SAR data?

The SENTINEL-1 Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) instrument may acquire data in four exclusive modes: Stripmap (SM) - A standard SAR stripmap imaging mode where the ground swath is illuminated with a continuous sequence of pulses, while the antenna beam is pointing to a fixed azimuth and elevation angle.
