Sentinel-1 product types

Sentinel-1 has four types of data products:

  1. What is a Level-1 product?
  2. What is the difference between Sentinel-1A and 1B?
  3. What is the use of Sentinel-1?
  4. What is the difference between Sentinel-1 and Sentinel 2?

What is a Level-1 product?

Sentinel-1 Level-1 products are the baseline products for the majority of users from which higher levels are derived. From data in each acquisition mode, the Instrument Processing Facility (IPF) generates focused Level-1 Single Look Complex (SLC) products and Level-1 Ground Range Detected (GRD) products.

What is the difference between Sentinel-1A and 1B?

Both Sentinel-1A and Sentinel-1B share the same orbit plane with a 180° orbital phasing difference. With both satellites operating, the repeat cycle is six days. In particular for interferometry, Sentinel-1 requires stringent orbit control.

What is the use of Sentinel-1?

SENTINEL-1 provides data feeding services for applications in the Copernicus priority areas of maritime monitoring, land monitoring and emergency management.

What is the difference between Sentinel-1 and Sentinel 2?

The first Sentinel-1 satellite was launched in April 2014. The objective of Sentinel-2 is land monitoring, and the mission will be composed of two polar-orbiting satellites providing high-resolution optical imagery. Vegetation, soil and coastal areas are among the monitoring objectives.
