Having a "back to top" button shouldn't cause any usability problems in and of itself, so its presence only aids usability. Adding it is a no-brainer. It's good practice for every long page, really (even on non-mobile sites).

A Back to Top button is really helpful if you have long pages that need a lot of scrolling. By clicking this floating button located somewhere on a page, customers can now return to the top of said page.

Since the top left is pretty standard for most apps, this makes it recognizable for the user and therefore easier to find and use. This position is only difficult to reach for mobile devices. That is why the bottom left would also be possible, but the most important option like a next button is at the bottom.
