Why are there two sets of traffic lights?

A secondary light is there in case the primary light doesn't work. It also helps you see the traffic lights on approach and while you're waiting at the stop line so that you don't have to strain your neck to see it.

What are the 4 traffic lights?

Here 'red' indicates that the vehicles must stop, 'yellow' means that the vehicles must slow down and finally 'green' means to go ahead. The colours red, yellow and green have been chosen as traffic lights due to their visibility and wavelength compared to the other colours.

Why do South Africans call traffic lights robots?

The automatic function of the traffic light resembles that of a robotic machine and hence the name. They actually say before traffic lights were there in South Africa, the police used to control traffic with their hands in busy intersections as they still do at times.

What is a double red light?

If there is no stop line or crosswalk, drivers must stop before the intersection. Vehicles must remain stopped at the red light until it turns green, unless safely turning right after stopping. A solid double red light has the same meaning as a single red light.
