In organisations, usable security also covers the design, development, configuration and maintenance of the tools and systems the business runs on.

Security needs to be usable — if a solution is easy to use employees will choose to work securely over choosing not to. Security needs to motivate a positive experience, and this is what a usable product does.

As its name implies, usable security deals with making sure that security products and processes are usable by those who need them (in this case almost everyone with a computer).

Why is it often a dilemma between security and system usability?

This dilemma emerges from the inherent nature of information security itself, which is to make systems fail to function in the way a user desires or to forbid user access to requested information unless the user can successfully attest to compliance with a set of policy requirements that grant access.
