What is the 5 second usability test?

This kind of test provides both quantitative and qualitative feedback that helps you optimize a design. A five second test is run by showing an image to a participant for just five seconds, after which the participant answers questions based on their memory and impression of the design.

How long should a user test be?

To run a usability test effectively will take between 30–60 minutes per participant. Of course, depending upon the complexity of what you're building, this length of time will vary, but in my experience, an hour is about the maximum time I'd recommend.
