What happens if you open a spam WhatsApp message?
A huge part of WhatsApp spam has a single purpose—to try and make you open a link in the message. Click on the link at your peril; it's going to try and illicit your personal details, banking details, login credentials, or any other form of data that has value on the dark web.
Why am I getting messages from unknown numbers on WhatsApp?
First and foremost, it's possible that your number has ended up in a spammer's database, and they share your number with other spammers, which in return send you more spam messages. Secondly, the number you're receiving the messages from could be someone you know.
Can I report a scammer to WhatsApp?
You can report spam messages or block a sender within WhatsApp. Press and hold on the message bubble, select 'Report' and then follow the instructions. It's also important to report all fraud-related incidents to Action Fraud to help build a national picture and help prevent others falling victim to scams.
