What to expect after a large filling?
It is common to experience sensitivity to air and to cold or hot food (or drink items) for up to three weeks after a dental filling. You may also notice increased sensitivity from the pressure of biting on the new dental filling, particularly if the dental filling is for a deeper cavity.
What to expect when getting a filling?
After your mouth is sufficiently numb, your dentist will remove the decay with a drill and then replace the decayed area with a filling. After the filling process is complete, your mouth will remain numb for at least a couple of hours. This is a normal occurrence as the anesthetic wears off gradually.
How do you feel after filling?
While the mouth might feel a bit numb for a few hours following the procedure, there may only be a bit of soreness following the procedure. In other cases, the patient may feel a bit of sensitivity for a few days or so, following the procedure.
How long after a filling does it feel normal?
While the majority of cavity fillings stop being sensitive after a day or two, some could take as much as two weeks to feel better. Even then, it may not be a cause for concern. If a cavity was deep or in a location used for heavy chewing, it might take longer to heal.
