What are font sizes called?
A font is often measured in pt (points). Points dictate the height of the lettering. There are approximately 72 (72.272) points in one inch or 2.54 cm. For example, the font size 72 would be about one inch tall, and 36 would be about a half of an inch.
Do different fonts have different sizes?
Each font has a specific ratio between cap height and x-height which also affects the general legibility of a font. Remember: Not all 12 pt fonts are made the same. Depending on the font, the differences can be considerable: A 12 pt font can appear small like an 8 pt font or large like a 16 pt font.
What is standard font and size?
The most common font used is black Times New Roman at 12 points in size. Other serif fonts, those that have tails, that work well include Cambria, Georgia, Garamond, Book Antiqua, and Didot.
What is font scale?
A typographic scale refers to a pre-defined set of intervals that dictate font sizes within a typographic system. Much like scales in music, it's not harmonious to play every possible note/use every available font sizeāit's better to limit ourselves to a few that have an explicit relationship to each other.
