When to use dropdown vs checkbox?
Use a checkbox list if you have a small to medium number of options, and want the user to select one or more of the options. If you have a checkbox list that has many options, it's often better to go with the Dropdown List with Multi-selection (see below).
When to use checkbox?
Checkboxes are used when there are lists of options and the user may select any number of choices, including zero, one, or several. In other words, each checkbox is independent of all other checkboxes in the list, so checking one box doesn't uncheck the others.
