To create a parent-child hierarchy, you should create a single table or view that represents the parent-child hierarchy. If you need several tables to build the hierarchy, you can create a view that flattens the structure. The top level of the hierarchy uses the parent key as the level key.
What is parent-child hierarchy?
A parent-child hierarchy is a hierarchy in a dimension that is based on two table columns. Together, these columns define the hierarchical relationships among the members of the dimension. The first column, called the member key column, identifies each dimension member.
