What date format should I use?

YYYY-MM-DD

where YYYY is the year in the usual Gregorian calendar, MM is the month of the year between 01 (January) and 12 (December), and DD is the day of the month between 01 and 31.

Which date format is most popular?

The vast majority of the world uses the format: day, then month, then year. Using the example above, 1/10/2022 would stand for the 1st of October, 2022.

What date format is used in Europe?

The format MM/DD/YY is unique to the United States (but sometimes used in Canada, too, which can obviously create some confusion there). Most of Europe uses DD/MM/YY. Japan uses YY/MM/DD. The separators may be slashes, dashes or periods.

What is the easiest date format to read?

The dd mmm yyyy format (e.g. 1 Jan 2014) is usually my approach on projects as it prevents possible confusion caused by displaying multiple units of time in 2 digits. In my opinion, 2 February 2002 or 2 Feb 2002 is far more readable than 02/02/02 or even 02/02/2002. Save this answer.
