Why do voicemails tell you the number before the message?

The reason? If somebody needs to hear your number again, or has to fetch a pen/paper to write down your number after deciding your message warranted a callback, they would not have to listen to the entire message to get to the phone number at the end.

Why do people say their phone number in a voicemail?

Maybe they are leaving you a different number than the one that they are calling from, maybe it's a blocked phone number. Also, it may be more convenient for you to hear the phone number, if you are returning the call from a different phone than the one that they left the message on.

How do you see what number a voicemail came from?

As long as the number is available (not blocked), you can press #5 on your keypad while listening to the voice message to hear the phone number.

When you leave a voicemail can they see your number?

Sure. Leaving a voice mail has no dependency on caller ID. The only exception would be if the person for whom you want to leave voice mail is blocking calls with no caller ID, then you would not be able to leave voice mail because your call would be blocked.

The voicemail is routed as such: Just like a bank check, there is an account number and an routing number. The reason for the routing number is to send it to the correct bank. The same goes for your voicemail.
