What is filter in UX design?
A filter category is a property of the items, such as color or price. A filter category often contains several filter values. A filter value is either a specific value of a property (say, “red”), or a range of values (say, “less than $100” or “red or blue”).

The advanced search option is usually placed somewhere closer to the basic search box on UI so that users can easily find and go towards it. The user defines a search filter and applies it to large data to narrows down its scope. A filter is created by adding different parameters.
Should filters be on left or right?
4. Filter bars better showcase filters. By making the filters more prominent on the page and by making them available as the user scrolls a filter bar does a better job of showcasing filters. Presenting filters left to right also makes it very easy for users to quickly see what options are available.
