Should buttons be on left or right?

Are the buttons on your shirt on the left side or on the right? There's actually a pretty easy answer: if you wear women's clothing, the buttons are on the left side of the shirt. However, if you wear men's shirts, the buttons line up on the right side.

Where the button and buttonhole is placed?

Button stands reflect the width of the button and are generally twice as wide as the diameter of the actual button. The button sits in the middle of the button stand – the button straddles the buttonhole – in essence one 1/2 of the button width sits either side of the button hole.

Do buttonholes go up or down?

If your buttonholes are on a fabric band for example on the front of a shirt they should be vertical with the exception on the top/collar button. The bottom buttonhole can be horizontal to stop the bottom of your garment popping open.
