Do people still use wireframes?
The prototypical wireframe attempts to be an accurate representation of layout and information architecture while intentionally avoiding high visual fidelity and sometimes high content fidelity as well. I've been surprised to hear wireframes are still posited as an essential step in the process of design.
Who creates wireframes?
Professionals who create wireframes include business analysts, information architects, interaction designers, user experience designers, graphic designers, programmers, and product managers. Working with wireframes may be a collaborative effort since it bridges the information architecture to the visual design.
Why is it called a wireframe?
Originally, wireframes were used to show 3D objects in Computer Aided Design (CAD). You'd probably recognize the style, used in manufacturing to depict the design of cars without the need for detail, leaving the drawing looking like it's made out of wires - hence, you guessed it, the term 'wireframe'.
Are wireframes necessary?

It is a critical part of the interaction design process. The aim of a wireframe is to provide a visual understanding of a page early in a project to get stakeholder and project team approval before the creative phase gets underway.
