Why do colors look different on different backgrounds?
The background color "subtracts" itself from the color it surrounds, causing the surrounded color to appear lighter or darker, and sometimes changing the appearance of hue. Opaque colors can appear to be transparent—an illusion of transparency.
How does background affect color?
Background: The background behind an object may make its color appear differently. An apple placed in front of a bright background, for example, may appear duller than when placed in front of a dark background. This is referred to as the contrast effect.
What makes colors look different from one another?
Our eyes perceive colors according to the wavelengths of the reflected light. We also know that the appearance of a color will be different depending on the time of day, lighting in the room, and many other factors.
Does color affect perception?
Some colours induce a feeling of pleasure in the observer. When an affectively positive, or pleasurably perceived, colour is viewed after a less-pleasant colour, it produces more pleasure than when viewed by itself, an effect known as affective contrast enhancement.
