What is standard grid size?
We'll discuss this in greater depth soon. The widths of the columns are always up to the designer, but in terms of standard practices, the traditional number of columns to use is 12 on desktop, 8 on tablet, and 4 on mobile. Most grids have 60-80px column widths.
Why use a 12-column grid?
The number 12 is the most easily divisible among reasonably small numbers; it's possible to have 12, 6, 4, 3, 2 or 1 evenly spaced columns. This gives designers tremendous flexibility over a layout. While the 12-column grid is a popular choice among many designers, it's not a one-size-fits-all solution.
How much margin do I need for a 12-column grid?
The twelve column grid does not have a maximum width. It has a width of 100%, with built in margins that create padding between column count and the edges of the viewport. In devices with a screen width greater than 768px, the margins are 5% on the left, and 5% on the right.
