What is an extreme user in UX?

The extreme users are those on the margins of a challenge or solution who can provide unique insights because of their special needs, perspectives, or actions. Taking into account the special needs and new perspectives of extreme users you are increasing the opportunity for innovation.

Why must you be careful about designing for extreme users?

While the extreme user may vary from project to project, it is also possible for them to change within a project. When designing with or for extreme users, the end product may serve to include them in ways in which they no longer are an extreme. Designers must be cognizant of the fluidity of their users.
